A LIVING HOPE IN CHRIST JESUS

Psalm 16:10-11 NKJV
“For You will not leave my soul in Sheol, Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption. You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”

In the Scriptures, God used David’s life and words to mirror many things about the Messiah, well before Christ touched down here on earth physically. Through the Psalmist’s words, for instance, we’re blessed to hear what Christ spoke to God about His childhood: “But You [Father God] are He who took Me [Jesus] out of the womb; You made Me trust while on My mother’s breasts. I was cast upon You from birth. From My mother’s womb You have been My God” (Psa 22:9-10 NKJV). Hallelujah! Yes, at a very tender age (as Man), Jesus had the Father’s hand upon Him; and He rested assured in that blessing and safety.

In the same Psalm 22, the Lord Jesus went on to speak—through the Psalmist—about His experience at the cross, saying, “…They pierced My hands and My feet; I can count all My bones. They look and stare at Me. They divide My garments among them, And for My clothing they cast lots” (Psa 22:16-18 NKJV). How precise that was of the Psalmist in foreshadowing the Suffering Servant! In our text of reference, David also echoed Christ’s words to God the Father about His resurrection, saying, “For You will not abandon me to Sheol (the nether world, the place of the dead), Nor will You allow Your Holy One to undergo decay. You will show me the path of life…” Oh, hallelujah!

Certainly, Satan’s kingdom must have rejoiced at the death of Jesus. Blessedly, that rejoicing would be short-lived! Prophesy and God’s divine order already had Christ’s resurrection fully covered beforehand. In His resurrection, Jesus became “…the first fruits [that is, the first to be resurrected with an incorruptible, immortal body, foreshadowing the resurrection] of those who have fallen asleep [in death]” (1 Cor 15:20 AMP). That said, physical death is not the ultimate end for us in Christ Jesus because, God has “…begotten us again to a LIVING hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead” (1 Pet 1:3 NKJV). Hallelujah!
