John 12:24 NKJV
“Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.”
The resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead not only fulfilled so many Old Testament prophecies but also sparked the unfolding of the great blessing of salvation for everyone who believes in Him. It serves us well, however, to recall that Christ’s humility and obedience to the Father’s will played a key part in our redemption story. Yes, the Scripture says that Jesus “…humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross” (Php 2:8 NKJV). Oh, hallelujah! The significance of Christ’s obedience to the point of death is partly revealed in what He said in our reference text:
“Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.” The Lord Jesus referred to a natural occurrence to explain a solid spiritual truth: He would take the place of that “grain of wheat” that “falls into the ground and dies”; so that through His suffering, death, and resurrection, “much grain” (referring to believers in Christ) would be produced in God’s Kingdom. Yes, it had to take the dying of a single Grain of wheat to produce much grain all over the world! The Apostle shared the same truth but in a slightly different way as follows:
“For it was fitting for Him [God], for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing MANY sons [believers] to glory, to make the captain [Jesus Christ] of their salvation perfect through sufferings” (Heb 2:10 NKJV). Indeed, as a result of Christ’s sufferings, death, and resurrection, the Gospel has never lost and will never lose its power to bring “many sons to glory”. Beloved, why not join Peter in celebrating God, saying, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead” (1 Pet 1:3 ESV). Hallelujah!
