THE BLESSED AND SURE HOPE

Isaiah 53:11 NLT
“When he sees all that is accomplished by his anguish, he will be satisfied. And because of his experience, my righteous servant will make it possible for many to be counted righteous, for he will bear all their sins.”

The Prophet Isaiah’s three-part spiritual insight into the impact of Christ’s death and resurrection was quite sharp. To him was revealed not only the details of the agonies of the Suffering Servant (Jesus Christ), which has already happened, but the things that are currently happening because of Christ’s death and resurrection, and things that are yet to happen as a result of what Christ has done. Of the agonies of Christ, the Prophet saw that “He is despised and rejected by men, a Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief…He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities…He was oppressed and He was afflicted…” (Isa 53:3,5,7 NKJV). All that came to a painful reality in Jesus Christ about two thousand years ago.

Of the things that are now happening in line with Christ’s death and resurrection, the Prophet saw into the day when “my righteous servant [Christ] will make it possible for many to be counted righteous, for he will bear all their sins”, as in our text. Yes, by the blood of Jesus and His finished work, many around the world—who believe in Him—are being “counted righteous” by God. In any case, “He [God] made Christ who knew no sin to [judicially] be sin on our behalf, so that in Him we would become the righteousness of God [that is, we would be made acceptable to Him and placed in a right relationship with Him by His gracious lovingkindness]” (2 Cor 5:21 AMP). Hallelujah!

Of the things that are yet to happen as a result of what Christ has done, our text says, “When he [Jesus] sees all that is accomplished by his anguish, he will be satisfied.” Primarily, what has been “accomplished by his anguish” is the salvation of our souls from eternal destruction. Indeed, the day is coming when Christ will be FULLY satisfied, i.e., at the time when the very last person to get born again will have come into God’s Kingdom before Christ starts the final judgment. Then on, we’ll forever be part of the many around the throne saying with a loud voice, “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom, And strength and honor and glory and blessing!” (Rev 5:11-12 NKJV). That is the blessed and sure hope of our salvation—all because of Jesus.
