Proverbs 3:5-6 NKJV
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.”
The weight of every spoken word is governed, among others, by who said it, and what has been said. When those in places of authority or those who are authorities in a given discipline speak, their words certainly catch the attention of men. The Bible says, “Where the word of a king is, there is power…” (Ecc 8:4 KJV). The Prophet Amos also asked, “…The Lord God has spoken! Who can hold back from prophesying?” (Amo 3:8 EHV) Hallelujah! In both texts, the Persons of “the king” and “the Lord God” made their words carry power and demand an action, respectively. In that line of understanding, the words in our reference Scripture possess so much weight, and call for our attention; especially when we appreciate who it was that spoke them.
When King Solomon said, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths”, this was no idle talk. By all earthly and human standards, Solomon had it: he was a man of royal splendor (1 Chr 29:25); he was a man of great wealth and riches (2 Chr 9:22); he was a man of unparalleled power and influence (2 Chr 9:25-26); he was the wisest man on earth, second only to Jesus Christ (Luk 11:31); Solomon possessed all that most men will only dream about. Therefore, for a man of such a status to still instruct us to trust “in the LORD” with all our hearts, and not to lean on our own understanding, he certainly knew and experienced how important that is. Hallelujah!
Child of God, in whatever things (spiritual or physical) you are up to, the Word says, trust in the LORD with all your heart. By the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the very Solomon said in Proverbs 19:21 that “Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails” (NIV). It is simply wise to start, continue, and complete everything in life with the Lord’s blessing and guidance. Notice in our text, it is leaning on our “own” understanding that leads to a dead end. However, there is the “spiritual understanding” (Col 1:9) that comes from the Lord, by the Holy Spirit, that we can lean on. With Him at the lead, you are all set for great testimonies as long as you listen, trust, and obey His guidance. Hallelujah!
