GIVING CAREFUL THOUGHT

Luke 2:19 AMP
“But Mary treasured all these things, giving careful thought to them and pondering them in her heart.”

Some things are too precious to handle without a deep and prayerful reflection. Indeed, especially in spiritual matters, time spent quietly before the LORD—and choosing to speak less—is not only wise, but also gives space to meditate on things beyond human understanding. For instance, the events surrounding the birth of Christ were so fast and fascinating: one report of divine experience after another. These not only amazed Jesus’ earthly parents, but “…all who heard it were astounded and wondered at what the shepherds told them” (Luk 2:18 AMP).

The Lord Jesus was a wonder at every stage of His life on earth. Mary, for her part, must have seen and heard many rare things she could ordinarily talk about. In a world like ours, people would naturally want her to ‘make a comment’ about her spectacular experiences. However, it was the opposite with one whom the grace of God had lifted from a humble background. Instead, our text says, “…Mary treasured all these things, giving careful thought to them and pondering them in her heart.” Hallelujah! These were divine matters that needed wisdom, humility, and patience to bring out—if need be and if it so pleased the LORD.

In Mary’s arms was One (Jesus) who knew all things, He was (and is) fully God, and yet He “…emptied himself of his outward glory by reducing himself to the form of a lowly servant. He became human!” (Php 2:7 TPT). Hallelujah! Beloved, the Scripture says, “Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing before God: for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few” (Ecc 5:2 KJV). There are things to talk about as much as possible (such as the gospel of Christ), and things to ponder in the heart and only pray about. The wisdom in giving “careful thought” and “pondering” about some things is, indeed, a must-have for every child of God.
