Isaiah 9:7 AMP
“There shall be no end to the increase of His government and of peace, [He shall rule] on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness from that time forward and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will accomplish this.”
A vivid pattern in Scripture is that whatever God begins continues to increase and grow from strength to strength: spiritually first and physically next. He not only sets His purposes into motion but also provides the spiritual and physical provision needed to sustain and cause them to flourish, all to the honor of His name. God’s working through human agents is evident throughout Scripture. Called and anointed by God to be King over Israel, for example, “…David grew stronger and stronger, while the house of Saul became weaker and weaker” (2 Sam 3:1 ESV). The more Saul fought against David, the weaker he became; but the stronger David waxed. Hallelujah!
Aware that David was a type of Christ, his testimony foreshadowed the outcome of the kingdom of darkness in its assaults against Christ’s Kingdom: Satan and his hosts are destined to grow weaker and weaker, while the Kingdom of Christ grows ever stronger. In fact, the Prophet Isaiah saw that a long time ago. Talking about Christ’s reign, he said, “There shall be no end to the increase of His government and of peace, [He shall rule] on the throne of David…”, as in our text. Notice, Isaiah did not say, ‘There shall be no end to His government and of peace…’; which in itself is equally true and powerful.
Rather, the Prophet said of Christ, “There shall be no end to THE INCREASE of His government and of peace…” In other words, Christ’s government, exercised through the Church, is not only ordained to reign forever, but also anointed to advance continually—ever increasing in power, glory, strength, dominion, number, and peace—world without end. Regardless of whatever the devil is doing, the gates of hades will NEVER prevail against Christ’s government, not now or hereafter. Yes, we are on the increase in every God-honouring way, and our portion is “…from strength to strength” (Psa 84:7 KJV) and “…from glory to glory, even as from the Lord the Spirit” (2 Cor 3:18 ASV). Hallelujah!
