1 Timothy 6:12 NKJV
“Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.”
A remarkable insight given to the prophet Habakkuk was that “…the just shall live by his faith” (Hab 2:4 NKJV). Unlike many Old Testament Scriptures, what the Spirit of God revealed to Habakkuk appears three other times in the New Testament (Rom 1:17; Gal 3:11; Heb 10:38). One possible reason for the repeated mention of that text is the importance heaven places on our life of faith. Indeed, the one thing almost all the Old Testament saints—whose names or words are honoured in the New Testament—have in common is this: they dared to act by faith in God! Hallelujah!”
Even after writing much detail on the results of the faith life by some OT saints in Hebrews 11, the author said that “…There isn’t enough time” (Heb 11:32 GNT) for him to speak of many other saints of old who engaged their faith in God. Notice that none of those in the Old Testament who, instead of trusting God, offered excuses, murmured, complained, or settled for alternatives displeasing to Him, were ever mentioned with honor in the New Testament as examples of the life of faith. That emphasizes the truth that “No one can please God without faith, for whoever comes to God must have faith that God exists…” (Heb 11:6 GNT).
Speaking on the same subject, Paul said to “Fight the good fight of faith…”. Among other reasons, he referred to the life of faith as “the good fight of faith”, possibly because our faith walk definitely goes against Satan’s kingdom of darkness. Elsewhere, the Word commands us to always “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil” (Eph 6:11 NKJV). Blessedly, the “above all” weapon within the armor is “the shield of faith,” which is very necessary for us to “quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.” (Eph 6:16 NKJV). Hallelujah! Thus, despite how scary Satan’s darts of fear, anxiety or worry may be, our life of faith in God guarantees a sure protection and victory. Hallelujah!
