Psalm 124:7 MEV
“We have escaped as a bird out of the snare of the hunters; the snare is broken, and we have escaped.”
The preserving power and grace of God towards His own is so glorious. Needless to emphasize, the advances of the kingdom of darkness against the righteous are relentless. Either through men or devils, the onslaught against God’s purposes and plans, through His sons and daughters, has faced constant violence from time immemorial. However, Christ’s Kingdom has not only remained steadfast in glory, but His government is on the increase (Isa 9:7)! In one of the Songs of Ascents of David, he paints a wonderful figurative picture of one of the ways the LORD rescues and preserves His people. As provided in our text of reference, this is how David describes it:
“We have escaped as a bird out of the snare of the hunters; the snare is broken, and we have escaped.” Hallelujah! The “bird” represents God’s people, and the “snare of the [bird] hunters” represents the schemes of the devil against the righteous. As can be seen in the text, clearly, the bird was already ensnared to an extent. However, for some (divine) reason, the snare got “broken” and “we have escaped”! Indeed, that powerful picture applies to the great salvation that Christ has wrought for us, and the ongoing rescue He keeps granting us in this life. Yes, at the cross of Calvary, the curse of sin was broken and we were given the privilege to escape eternal destruction!
Besides the foregoing, in the Lord Jesus, grace has also now been granted us to mount up with wings like birds (eagles), especially as we wait on the LORD (Isa 40:31). Oh, how wonderful it is that Christ not only rescued us from the eternal death trap of the devil, but by the grace of the same Lord Jesus Christ, we, like the freed bird, keep mounting up in spiritual strength, wisdom, favour, faith, grace and all precious virtues that God gives to His beloved in Christ! Child of God, what Christ has done for us is so awesomely amazing that we, with the saints in glory, will be completely right to eternally proclaim, “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom, and strength and honor and glory and blessing!” (Rev 5:12 NKJV). Hallelujah!
