FAITH CENTERED ON GOD ALONE

Matthew 9:28 NKJV
And when He had come into the house, the blind men came to Him. And Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to Him, “Yes, Lord.”

The way Scripture records how God’s people had faith in Him is so inspiring. Whether through their corresponding actions or verbal expressions, God’s people shared a common ground: almost all of them faced a challenging situation (Heb 11:7-38). While their outward human experiences had turned dark, the light of the LORD in their hearts, however, shone bright and they trusted God—regardless of their glaring circumstances. That was equally true during Jesus’ days on earth physically. After He healed Jairus’ daughter, for example, the Scripture says, “…two blind men followed him, calling out, ‘Have mercy on us, Son of David!'” (Mat 9:27 NIV).

It was as if the blind men thought, ‘If Jesus just raised a dead girl back to life, then our blindness should be nothing!’ Notice, Jesus used His own faith (and probably that of Jairus) to raise the girl from the dead. However, given that the blind men were alive, He placed a demand on their faith when they requested to be healed. Jesus asked them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” (Mat 9:28 NIV) They said to Him, “Yes, Lord”, as in our text. Oh how powerful it is to let our whole being always say “Yes Lord”—even if we do not understand how God will handle whatever we have committed to Him! The truth is, while we will never know the finest details of God’s doings, we can trust Him enough to say “Yes Lord” to His promises and His leading, always. Hallelujah!

Beloved, one of the things that activates faith in the regenerated human spirit is belief in the power of God to do all things that glorify His wonderful name. To acknowledge that nothing is impossible with God, and that it is His desire to glorify His name through the open display of His goodness, is such an important and powerful step to receiving the things for which we engage our faith. In other words, our faith in God ought to be God-centred: fixed on the sovereign power of His endless ability to do whatever His Word says. In that light of insight, may your response to God’s promises and His leading always be a swift, “Yes Lord”!
