A HUMBLE COMMITMENT TO GOD

John 8:29 NKJV

“And He who sent Me is with Me. The Father has not left Me alone, for I always do those things that please Him.”

There is no doubt that doing the Father’s will was at the centre stage of Jesus’ ministry on earth. Certainly, other servants that God raised did their best to do His will. However, for Jesus—who “…is the exact living image [the essential manifestation] of the unseen God [the visible representation of the invisible], the firstborn [the preeminent one, the sovereign, and the originator] of ALL creation” (Col 1:15 AMP)—to willingly submit Himself to God the Father is not a thing to be taken lightly. That humble commitment was amplified even further through His own words: “I am able to do nothing from Myself [independently, of My own accord-but only as I am taught by God and as I get His orders].”

“Even as I hear, I judge [I decide as I am bidden to decide. As the voice comes to Me, so I give a decision], and My judgment is right (just, righteous), because I do not seek or consult My own will [I have no desire to do what is pleasing to Myself, My own aim, My own purpose] but only the will and pleasure of the Father Who sent Me” (Joh 5:30 AMPC). In addition, the Son of God was careful not to get sidetracked by the (often blind-folding and slippery) praise of men. The Word says, He “…would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all men. He did not need man’s testimony about man, for he knew what was in a man” (Joh 2:24-25 NIV). Hallelujah!

What a blessing it is that the Lord Jesus did all that in this world, where He was faced with the same (and even worse) issues of life that we face! What Christ said in our reference text sheds great light: “He who sent Me is with Me. The Father has not left Me alone, for I always do those things that please Him.” Notice, the Father’s continuous spiritual presence with Jesus made Him to be given over to doing only “those things that please Him.” Hallelujah! In the same line of truth, and given that God has equally said to us “I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Heb 13:5 NKJV), doing only those things that please Him should, indeed, be our heartbeat and humble commitment to God in Christ Jesus.
