Mark 9:9 NKJV
“Now as they came down from the mountain, He commanded them that they should tell no one the things they had seen, till the Son of Man had risen from the dead.”
The lowliness of heart and mind with which the Lord Jesus conducted Himself was so peculiar and something to learn from. Besides being full of “…glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth” (Joh 1:14 NKJV), Christ never took advantage of anyone based on His divine privileges. Rather, He laid down His life and used His power and glory for the good of others. Yes, Apostle Peter testifies that Jesus “…went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him” (Act 10:38 NKJV). Hallelujah!
On another occasion, awesome as the Mount of Transfiguration was (Mar 9), the LORD Jesus “…commanded them [Peter, John, and James] that they should tell no one the things they had seen, till the Son of Man had risen from the dead”, as in the reference text. Certainly, if that were in our day, the whole world would be made to know what happened even before they would descend the Mount! However, the Son of Man was not seeking fame or relevance, He was here to do only what pleased God the Father. Whether or not men applauded Christ was secondary; doing the Father’s will and completing it mattered the most.
Though he did not have a direct interface with Christ on earth like the disciples, Paul was so moved by His meekness and counseled, “You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being” (Php 2:5-7 NLT). Hallelujah! Scripturally speaking, we gain far more through lowliness of heart, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble” (1 Pet 5:5 ESV). A lowly heart invites the abundance of God’s uplifting grace.
