A MIND TAUGHT TO STAY ON GOD

Isaiah 26:3 NKJV
“You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.”

Among other things that God created on the human body, He gifted us with a tangible brain, which forms part of our immaterial mind. Indeed, the human mind is at the forefront of almost all the things that happen in and around us. It can travel back to the history of our yesteryear experiences, interface with our current life concerns, and yet construct what we eventually consider as our future prospects. While the other parts of our bodies may be in recess at some point, the kind is most likely to duty, processing untold numbers of thoughts, imaginations, ideas, and so forth. Talking about Himself, the LORD once asked Job, saying, “Who has put wisdom in the inward parts or given understanding to the mind?” (Job 38:36 ESV).

Our ability to understand is, indeed, one of God’s best presents to mankind. On a cautious note, however, besides being at the forefront, the human mind is also at the battlefront of most spiritual wars waged by the devil against God’s people. For that reason, the Word teaches that we should be “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ” (2 Cor 10:5 KJV). The Scripture also says to think only about “…whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable” (Php 4:8 NIV).

It is in God’s interest that our minds should be righteously productive and peaceful as well. This is the God-kind of peace that surpasses all understanding. ‘As a Child of God, how may I receive that kind of peace?’, one may inquire. The Prophet Isaiah shares an insight (in our reference text) in that regard. He observed that God keeps in perfect peace those whose minds are stayed on Him because they trust in Him. Hallelujah! Notice, it is our minds that must be taught and guided to stay thinking on God: thinking on His greatness above all things (Psa 86:8-10), His power to handle all situations (Eph 3:20), His closeness in all circumstances (Heb 13:5), and such other truths about Him that have stood the test of time. Hallelujah!
