Jeremiah 32:27 KJV
“Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh: is there anything too hard for me?”
The LORD our God has always made Himself clear to His people; particularly concerning things He wants them to know about Him. One common way that He uses to drive home His points is by asking His people questions—directly or through His servants. These are rhetorical (not to be answered but understood) questions that open our understanding and help to build faith, hope, and trust in God. Let us look at some of them. When Sarah doubted if she could ever bear a son in old age, the LORD asked her, saying, “Is anything too hard for the Lord?” (Gen 18:14 NIV).
God used Jeremiah to ask Israel saying, “Who is he who speaks and it comes to pass, When the Lord has not commanded it?” (Lam 3:37 NKJV). Job took several of them, two of which include, “Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation?” (Job 38:4 NIV); “Who has a claim against me that I must pay?” (Job 41:11 NIV). When Jonah got angry because God relented from bringing destruction to Nineveh, the LORD asked him, saying, “Do you have a good reason to be angry?” (Jon 4:4 AMP). In our reference text, Jeremiah was also asked, “Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh: is there anything too hard for me?”
Indeed, when hedged about with the issues of life, the soul usually tends to generate many unguided (and at times uninformed) questions towards God. However, let us remember this: Our finite minds cannot understand all the unsearchable depth of God’s riches of grace and goodness towards the righteous. Besides, “No one can measure the depths of his understanding” (Isa 40:28 NLT). Hallelujah! Therefore, it is wise to always take God at His Word, trust Him in simple faith, and rest in His faithfulness, knowing well that He is the all-knowing and all-powerful God—”…able to do exceeding abundantly above ALL that we ask or think” (Eph 3:20 KJV). Hallelujah!
