John 14:1 NIV
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me.”
One of the blessed things about the Holy Scriptures is that they allow us to interact with the various people therein and the realities they faced. In other words, we have the privilege to relate with the circumstances, dilemmas, but also the testimonies of overcoming that God’s people experienced. For instance, the very issues that drove Abraham, Hannah, Elijah, Elizabeth, and others to their knees are the same challenges we face today. It was no different for the disciples: they got afraid of the situations around them, especially now that Jesus Christ was about to ascend to heaven and physically be away from them.
Drawing from our reference Scripture, however, we hear the Lord speak powerful words of encouragement to His beloved. Yes, that particular moment required those uplifting words. Though the disciples would have to face the realities of life without the Lord’s physical presence, He would remain with them spiritually, never leaving nor forsaking them (Heb 13:5). Clearly, that sounds like some experiences we still have today! What was Jesus’ solution for the disciples to deal with fear, anxiety, and the like, ahead of them? “Trust in God; trust also in me”, said our Lord Christ! Hallelujah!
Beloved, in every season there is hope for today and for tomorrow as we place our trust in God our Father and in Jesus Christ His Son, by the gracious and strengthening help of the Holy Spirit. The words of the Psalmist wrap all this nicely and powerfully: “My flesh and my heart fail; but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever” (Psa 73:26 NKJV). The God who is our strength and our portion is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Heb 13:8). And because He is everlasting, we have great hope to walk each day with Him in righteousness, peace, and joy. Hallelujah!
