GREAT IS GOD’S FAITHFULNESS

Lamentations 3:22-23 KJV
“It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.”

Given his tenderness of heart, Jeremiah, also known as the Weeping Prophet, wrote the book of Lamentations. His passion to see the establishment of God’s purposes amongst his people, who paid deaf ears for the most part, was intense. Jeremiah would dedicate the entire book of Lamentations in the Bible to passionately express his grief and sorrow over what would befall the people of God. However, to read such heart-warming words in our Scripture of reference in a book of cries is a clear display of God’s grace and goodness. Hallelujah!

There is more that the prophet saw of God in the middle of his lamenting, which unwraps the goodness of God in even a greater way. Jeremiah realised and said, “The LORD IS MY PORTION, saith my SOUL; therefore will I hope in him. The LORD IS GOOD unto them that wait for him, to the SOUL that seeketh him” (Lam 3:24-25 KJV). Hallelujah! Notice, it is our soul that must first firmly grip this truth about God, because it may take a while for the body (the five senses) to fully process.

No wonder the Psalmist exclaimed, “Bless the LORD, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name!” (Psa 103:1 NKJV). Thanks be to God that there is a remnant that is not consumed because of His mercies that are new every morning! What should we do, therefore, in light of all this? Jeremiah gave us a wonderful counsel: “It is good that one should HOPE and WAIT quietly for the salvation of the LORD” (Lam 3:26 NKJV), because GREAT is God’s faithfulness. Hallelujah!
