Galatians 3:8 NKJV
“And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand, saying, ‘In you all the nations shall be blessed.'”
From the very beginning, blessing His people and doing them good has always been on God’s heart. In the Garden of Eden, for instance, the very first words over mankind were blessings (Gen 1:28). “God [also] blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, ‘Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth'” (Gen 9:1 NIV). It was no different with Abraham: the LORD blessed him so heavily (Gen 12:1-2; 13:2). Besides the blessings that Abraham spoke over his son, “…God blessed his son Isaac” (Gen 25:11 NIV). The LORD continued to look favourably upon Jacob (Isaac’s son) and also blessed him. The testimonies stemming from the power of the blessing upon Jacob spoke for themselves in Laban’s house and elsewhere.
God continued His blessings upon Jacob’s descendants. He spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to Aaron and his sons, saying, ‘This is the way you shall bless the children of Israel. Say to them: “The LORD bless you and keep you; The LORD make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; The LORD lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace”‘ (Num 6:23-26 NKJV). Hallelujah! Thankfully, God also had a plan to bless those outside the Jewish lineage. In our reference text, God preached to Abraham, saying, “In you ALL the nations [on earth] shall be blessed”! Though Abraham passed on, God’s word remained alive and was fulfilled in Christ.
Yes, in Christ Jesus, “…God has blessed the Gentiles with the SAME blessing he promised to Abraham, so that we who are believers might receive the promised Holy Spirit through faith” (Gal 3:14 NLT). Hallelujah! Indeed, the power of God’s blessing in Christ is what keeps us steadfast and forward-moving against all odds. In that regard, our meditation and way of thinking ought to remain in agreement with what God has done for and in us, whatever the case may be! God’s word that has proceeded forth cannot be amended or withdrawn; it returns to Him only after fulfilling that for which He sends it. What God has blessed, no man or devil can reverse. Live in the blessing in Christ!
