Hebrews 4:14 MEV
“Since then we have a great High Priest who has passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to our confession.”
Coming to salvation in Christ Jesus is just the beginning of the life of faith that must be characteristic of every believer in Him. The Gospel of Christ that opened our eyes and hearts to see the great Light, spiritually speaking, is also the Gospel by which God’s righteousness and faith are imparted to our regenerated spirits. Paul the Apostle puts it this way: “For I am not ashamed of the Gospel (good news) of Christ, for it is God’s power working unto salvation [for deliverance from eternal death] to everyone who believes with a personal trust and a confident surrender and firm reliance, to the Jew first and also to the Greek” (Rom 1:16 AMPC). Hallelujah!
Apart from being the power of God unto salvation, Paul goes on to give a second reason for which he is not ashamed of the Gospel: “For in the Gospel a righteousness which God ascribes is revealed, both springing FROM faith and leading TO faith [disclosed through the way of faith that arouses to more faith]. As it is written, The man who through faith is and upright shall live and shall LIVE BY FAITH” (Rom 1:17 AMPC). Hallelujah! ‘Why is the life of faith so important for our walk of salvation?’ one may inquire. Among other reasons, the Scripture says, “Without faith it is impossible to please God” (Heb 11:6 MEV). Oh, thanks be to God that by the Gospel, a righteousness that only God (not the works of the Law) ascribes is revealed.
The Word says, that God-given righteousness springs from faith and leads to more faith! In other words, it is “disclosed through the way of faith that arouses to more faith”. Hallelujah! That said, living an impactful life of faith cannot be separated from firmly embracing and highly esteeming the “Gospel of Christ”—which is the uniqueness of His Person and words, the finished work He has done at the cross, the resultant exceeding riches of His grace, and the glories of His appearing to take us to be with Him forever! Oh, thanks be God for Christ and His Gospel! Here is an important counsel we have from God’s word: “…let us hold FIRMLY to our confession [of faith]”, as in our reference text.
