ONE WITH CHRIST BY THE SPIRIT

1 Peter 1:23 GNT
“For through the living and eternal word of God you have been born again as the children of a parent who is immortal, not mortal.”

Even if we may not recall much about the day we were born again, there are remarkable parallels between our spiritual birth and the physical birth of our Lord Jesus. Firstly, in both cases, the Holy Spirit was the One at work to effect our spiritual and Christ’s physical births. According to the Scriptures, the angel sent to Joseph spoke of Mary that “…that [Jesus Christ] which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit” (Mat 1:20 NKJV). On our part, while explaining to Nicodemus how our spiritual birth happens, Jesus said, “…that [believer in Christ] which is born of the Spirit is spirit” (Joh 3:6 NKJV). Yes, the Spirit of God handled us and our elder Brother—Jesus Christ (Heb 2:11).

Secondly, God’s angels rejoiced both on that day Jesus was born and the day we each got born again. The Scripture says, on the day Christ was born, “…suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: ‘Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!'” (Luk 2:13-14 NKJV). On our part, the Word says, “…That’s the way God responds every time one lost sinner repents and turns to him. He says to all his angels, ‘Let’s have a joyous celebration, for that one who was lost I have found!'” (Luk 15:10 TPT). Hallelujah! Child of God, once upon a time, you were celebrated by angels and the heavenly host!

Thirdly, much as the Lord Jesus was given earthly parents (Joseph and Mary), He is the Son of the immortal heavenly God the Father. Indeed, Christ’s spiritual ‘resemblance’ (nature) to His heavenly Father outweighs that to His earthly parents. On our part, while we are also given earthly parents, our reference text says, we “…have been born again as the children of a parent who is immortal, not mortal”. Hallelujah! Yes, our human, born-again spirit has been “…created in God’s image, [Godlike] in true righteousness and holiness” (Eph 4:24 AMPC). Glory to God for the precious gift of salvation in Christ Jesus.
