SEE AND SAY OF THE LORD ALONE

Psalm 91:2 AMP
I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, My God, in whom I trust [with great confidence, and on whom I rely]!”

Much of what comes out of our tongues reflects what we focus on most. Indeed, what goes on in our surroundings or our past experiences have great potential to influence how we perceive things, and that ultimately affects how we see and say things. Needless to emphasize, there is so much that goes on under the sun that is outside of our human control. As such, if our lives were governed only by what we see and hear around us, we would be the most miserable of all men! Oh, thankfully, God’s word says to “Set your mind and keep focused habitually on the things above [the heavenly things], not on things that are on the earth [which have only temporal value]. When Christ, who is our life, appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory” (Col 3:2, 4 AMP). Hallelujah!

‘Does that mean that we should pay a deaf ear and a blind eye to the things we hear and see, respectively?’, one may wonder. Well, while the things that happen around us may offer cues to help shape our prayer focus, we must not rely on them alone. Rather, we are to understand God’s greater and superior purpose in Christ—as revealed in the Scriptures—and let that guide our prayer focus. Aware that we live in a domain where the Scripture refers to Satan as the “god of this world” (2 Cor 4:4 KJV), evil things will continue to be promoted by men and devils. However, this is also the very domain where the Scripture says, “The earth is FULL of the goodness of the LORD” (Psa 33:5 NKJV). Hallelujah! Given such a stark contrast, the question is, What do you—a child of God—decide to see or say?

In our reference text, the Psalmist gives us an important perspective on how to see and say things: “I will say of the LORD, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, My God, in whom I trust [with great confidence, and on whom I rely]!'” Hallelujah! While others could have possibly seen and said of the LORD as their ‘source of problems’ or been overly taken up with trying to find out the ‘spiritual causes’ of whatever was going on, the Psalmist was taken over by seeing “the LORD” as his “refuge and fortress.” Oh, what a better and superior way of seeing! Child of God, “…even if there are so-called gods…yet for us there is one God, the Father, of whom are ALL things, and we for Him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom are ALL things, and through whom WE live” (1 Cor 8:5-6 NKJV). Keep seeing and saying of the LORD alone. Hallelujah!
