STEPS ESTABLISHED BY THE LORD

Psalm 37:23 AMP
“The steps of a [good and righteous] man are directed and established by the LORD, and He delights in his way [and blesses his path].”

We, the living, are all walking on invisible paths in this life. Like the physical roads we use, the invisible paths have turns and bends, which are largely determined by our choices and decisions. Seen from a Scriptural perspective, the paths we each take lead to either the narrow gate or the broad one. And, the Lord Jesus had this to say in that regard: “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad and easy to travel is the path that leads the way to destruction and eternal loss, and there are many who enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow and difficult to travel is the path that leads the way to [everlasting] life, and there are few who find it” (Mat 7:13-14 AMP).

As people who, in Christ, have graciously found “the path that leads the way to [everlasting] life”, it is such a great blessing to know how the LORD, again, is helping us tread that path. For instance, our reference text enlightens us that “The steps of a [good and righteous] man are directed and established by the LORD, and He delights in his way [and blesses his path].” Hallelujah! The Hebrew word for “steps” here connotes ‘small movements’. That implies that, spiritual or physical, what may be appearing to us (in Christ) as small or insignificant steps in life are all being “directed and established by the LORD”! Yes, He “delights” in our righteous goings and blesses them.

‘Are there troublesome spots along that path? If so, how does the LORD handle us at such places?’, one may inquire. Thankfully, we have David’s testimony to find answers from. He said, “I waited patiently for the LORD; and He inclined to me, and…He also brought me up OUT of a horrible pit, OUT of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps” (Psa 40:1-2 NKJV). Hallelujah! Put plainly, with the LORD walking with us along this path, He will always get us “out” of any “horrible pit” or “miry clay” for His name’s sake! That said, the fear that often threatens progress must not have any place in our lives. Oh, keep taking the steps by faith, and let God direct and establish them—all to the glory of His name.
