THE FOREVER BLESSING IN CHRIST

Ephesians 1:3 AMPC
“May blessing (praise, laudation, and eulogy) be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah) Who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual (given by the Holy Spirit) blessing in the heavenly realm!”

The truth that God made man on the sixth day, after He had created all other things that Adam would need, shows that He wanted man to lack nothing. As God’s handiwork in the Garden of Eden, Adam was to manage and be a good steward of all under his charge. Everything he needed was available and divinely sustained for his well-being. However, when Adam disobeyed God (Gen 3), some things changed regarding man’s supply system. The LORD told Adam, “Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life. By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken” (Gen 3:17,19 NIV).

In speaking to Adam, God considered him the federal (representative) head of all mankind. Meaning, what He said to Adam would have an impact on all of humanity. Given that man’s supply system would, thenceforth, be “through painful toil” and by the “sweat of your brow”, the notion of lack kicked in. In that light, lack is thus one of the unfortunate consequences of man’s disobedience to God; which wasn’t in God’s original plan for mankind. On the flip side, when the Last Adam (Jesus Christ) fully obeyed God (Php 2), some things also changed for the better. Talking about the Messiah, the Scripture says, “…God has blessed You forever” (Psa 45:2 AMP). While God “cursed” the ground because of the first Adam, God has “blessed” the Last Adam forever!

Thankfully, Jesus Christ is also the federal Head of the righteous in God’s Kingdom (Col 1:18). The blessing that God spoke over Him is for our good. That said, though the ground may still be under the curse, God’s blessing upon the Person of Christ embodies us fully. Yes, as in our reference text, God has “…blessed us in Christ with every spiritual (given by the Holy Spirit) blessing in the heavenly realm!” Hallelujah! The “forever” blessing on Jesus Christ (in who we are) is certainly stronger than the curse on the ground. The Scripture also says that “The LORD will not allow the righteous to hunger [God will meet all his needs]…” (Pro 10:3 AMP). Oh, glory to Christ, our forever-blessed Head!
