Jeremiah 33:6-8 NKJV
“Behold, I will bring it health and healing; I will heal them and reveal to them the abundance of peace and truth. And I will cause the captives of Judah and the captives of Israel to return, and will rebuild those places as at the first.”
Jeremiah was a major prophetic voice through whom God spoke to Israel about their captivity in Babylon and their eventual release. The LORD spoke through him, saying in part, “Moreover I will take from them the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the sound of the millstones and the light of the lamp…and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years” (Jer 25:10-11 NKJV). Although the 70 years in captivity were long and dreadful, God’s eye was on His people and He still had a good plan for their future—and ours through Christ Jesus, in whom would be the perfect fulfillment of what was spoken.
In our reference text, God spoke of things that were, indeed, so comforting and quite revelatory of the Messiah: “Behold, I will bring it health and healing; I will heal them and reveal to them the abundance of peace and truth. And I will cause the captives of Judah and the captives of Israel to return, and will rebuild those places as at the first,” said the LORD. In the fullness of time, Jesus Christ was He who came with “healing in His wings” (Mal 4:2 NKJV); He is now “The Prince of Peace” (Isa 9:6 KJV); and, “grace and truth” (Joh 1:17 KJV) came by Him. Hallelujah!
Though the LORD had said, “…I will take from them the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride…”, after the 70 years of captivity, He said, “…AGAIN there shall be heard in this place…the voice of joy and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride…” (Jer 33:10-11 NKJV). Hallelujah! Jesus Christ, the Great Physician, is still providing health and healing for bodies and souls. He is still revealing the abundance of peace that surpasses all understanding to hearts and minds, and He is the truth that makes free. Hallelujah!
