John 10:27 NKJV
“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.”
To have the Lord Jesus as our Chief Shepherd is one of the greatest blessings there is in our Christian walk of faith. Many blessed virtues stand out from His Shepherdhood. In our reference text, for example, the Lord said, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” Therein, we see, firstly, a Shepherd who not only speaks words of guidance and caution to His sheep, but they are enabled to hear His voice. Notice, there may be other voices that speak counterproductive things around, but as long as the sheep are the Master’s, they will assuredly “hear My voice”, said the Lord Jesus. Hallelujah!
Such a deep and inseparable relationship between the Shepherd and His sheep is heaven’s design for us in Christ. Secondly, regardless of how many thousands over thousands His sheep may be, our Chief Shepherd says, “I know [each of] them”! How wonderful and uplifting that is! Yes, the Lord knows and is concerned about the well-being of each one of us in a particular and adequate manner. In any case, “…It is HE Who has made us, not we ourselves [and we are HIS]! We are HIS people and the sheep of HIS pasture” (Psa 100:3 AMPC). Oh, Hallelujah! We are the Lord’s responsibility.
Yes, the Lord our Shepherd delights in making us lie down in the green pastures of His divine providence and grace, and in leading us beside the still waters of His spiritual refreshing supplies, among others (Psa 23). Thirdly, our Lord Jesus says that His sheep “follow Me”, but not a stranger whose motive is sadly to “…steal, and to kill, and to destroy” (John 10:10 NKJV). However, most blessedly, He said, “I am the door of the sheep” (Joh 10:7 NKJV)! Who can manage to or even dare break that ancient Door? No wonder, Christ says this regarding His sheep: “…NO ONE will ever snatch them out of My hand” (Joh 10:28 AMP). Hallelujah!
